Gift Train (GameDev.tv Jam 2023)

The life of this 2 dimensional child is about to end. They forgot about Mother's Day and they have no gift for her. They better act fast or Mom will be angry!

Collect gifts from around town. Start with the smallest ones. Find gifts with a glowing outline to pickup. You can't pickup larger gifts until you've reached a minimum value. Keep collecting gifts to get the gift train as long as possible. Try to find the most efficient path to the highest score!

Hint: The bed requires a train value of at least 2000 pts before you can pick it up.

MOBILE CONTROLS: Movement stick on bottom left of screen.

This is my submission for GameDev.TV Jam 2023.

DEV NOTES:

I'm thankful that the game jam was over 10 days. I was generally pretty busy with my home life, but I was just able to squeeze in time to make this game. It could use a lot more QA and game balance, but it is done. There were a few features I left on the cutting room floor to get this game to completion. They are (in no particular order):

• More gift types and sizes.
• Each gift would have a personalized sound.
• Multiple endings based on the gift values and on specific special gifts.
• More challenge to maintain the gift train. I was thinking of threats to the gifts that would break apart the train. But that might not have been fun.
