The life of this 2 dimensional child is about to end. They forgot about Mother's Day and they have no gift for her. They better act fast or Mom will be angry!

Collect gifts from around town. Start with the smallest ones. Find gifts with a glowing outline to pickup. You can't pickup larger gifts until you've reached a minimum value. Keep collecting gifts to get the gift train as long as possible. Try to find the most efficient path to the highest score!

Hint: The bed requires a train value of at least 2750 pts before you can pick it up.

CONTROLS: Arrow Keys

MOBILE CONTROLS: Movement stick on bottom left of screen.

UPDATE: Fixed controls so movement should be better.

The original version of this game was submitted for the GameDev.TV Jam 2023. This version is more what I had wanted to make, but I ran out of time for the game jam.

This new version includes these additional features:

  • More gifts!
  • Animated gifts!
  • Multiple reactions from mother based on how much and what you've picked up. Find all twelve! Or don't!
  • Backend change to the player movement/collision system!
  • Childhood angst!
  • More polish!

The player now feels more sluggish as you have more gifts in your train. It's definitely more challenging. Not sure if it makes the game more enjoyable though. Give and take I guess. Still very nice work!

Hmmm? Thanks for playing and the insight.

I did have to overhaul the movement system for the player as they kept getting caught on corners. I tried to mimic the speed and nimbleness from the first version of the game, but maybe I didn't get it right. Or like you are saying, maybe it feels more sluggish because of the train length.

As I'm writing this comment, I did a test of how long it took for the player in both games  to travel the same city block. The player in the new game is slower by 10-15%... Haha, I thought I wasn't gonna open the project up again, but I guess I will and try to correct this.

Again, thanks for playing. I felt very good and surprisingly proud of the game, so I appreciate your comment.

Amazing work!
